Today i am testing out ctrader, it is another platform that is out there .. one of the many. While i am used to metatrader here are some ideas i have got out of this so far. This will be a comparison between mt4 and ctrader.
What is it all about?
Straight out the box I notice how snappy it feels. I am currently running 4 platforms on a computer using only 35watts, yes that is correct. It is perfectly fine for trading and I have been doing so for the last 4 months now. This thing truly feels faster, not sure it is really is though. I get reminded of another platform that I used for trading futures a few years back where one of the functions built in was the ability to move stops or even initiate stops on x amount of profitable points. This is one of the functions that is very useful to me. Although in my current trading I have no need for this, mind you. It is something that would assist me though.
The Automatic stuff
Another thing that I like is what they then have added to this, there is also the ability to trail stops dynamically. The same function that is built into metatrader. The menu where this is though looks a bit updated in comparison, the trailing and on profit locking of stop items are set together where I as as the trader can chose to use one or the other. I can use both just not at the same time mind you. Something else though that I found is the ability to “on profit x points close y amount”, this is something that I devised an EA in mt4 to do, here it is standard. Very very nice I must say, it also has several levels to it. Where I as the trader can chose to take of a different amount at a said amount of profit points, in 4 individual step adjustments. Very handy I must say.
The charts
At first when I started the program I though, why did they place that big thing to the left there? I notice huge buttons to go long or short and there was also links to other instruments there. While these are present in metatrader also I have forgotten that I did shut them off though. I did find where to do this in ctrader also, it just took me some looking through the settings to find it. Pressing F11 swaps me through the different modes where “chart trading” is the one that I personally use.
All in all it feels like a newer version of a system, though I have no clue as to when this was created in comparison. There is more right there and the snappiness of it all combined with the better spreads, yes I have noticed many brokers give better spreads on ctrader, is what leads me to think that this thing my be in my future. One thing though the alarm notification issue.. I use an alarm that tells me “price has reached x level”, this is not present by default in ctrader but it is in metatrader. Nothing to say that it couldn't be added in a future patch or addon though, there is also the option for the system to mail me on fills of positions and stuff I guess that is some sort of a bandaid then. I like it though..
